Give the Gift of Clean Water to Dire Communities

Water is a basic necessity for life; unfortunately, not all water is safe for human consumption. Water from contaminated sources causes numerous diseases and abrupt death. The fact that human beings need water and cannot live without it, in situations like scarcity forces them to use it even for drinking purposes from any contaminated source as a result many people suffer or die from water-borne diseases, especially across Africa.

UN SDG 6 is about "clean water and sanitation for all". It is one of 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, the official wording is: "Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all." and InshaAllah we at Bugisu Muslim Development Center want to contribute to providing clean water to communities in East Africa.

Access to a clean water supply is a fundamental need and a human right. Such access by the poor is a key factor in improving health and economic productivity and therefore, is an essential component of any effort to alleviate poverty.

According to the global water supply and sanitation assessment report across developed countries, it is very rare for people to die or get sick as a result of poor water, sanitation, and hygiene. However, in developing countries, Uganda in particular, approximately 23,000 Ugandans, including 19,700 children under 5, die each year from diarrhea. Of which nearly 90% is directly attributed to poor water.

We at BMDC are on a mission to change that. 

Lack of access to safe and adequate water in the region has forced the residents and population of Butaleja and Budaka (East Uganda) to fetch water from unprotected rivers, streams, ponds, springs, and unprotected wells. Exposing them to various water-associated diseases (amoeba, typhoid, and bacillary dysentery, etc.) and water-washed diseases (like trachoma, and scabies). 

The existing gender roles in the project area reflect that water fetching is the responsibility of women and girls making them spend much of their time traveling long distances in search of water. The average time spent is estimated to be a total of 4-5 hours; for a round trip.

This time is spent fetching water from unprotected water sources. Women are denied the time to do daily chores and have little time to concentrate on productive activities. Young girls are not attending school regularly, often failing exams and repeating an academic year and eventually resulting in school dropout creating a vicious cycle of poverty.

With your contribution and support, BMDC can extend clean water to dire communities in need of water and this can be achieved through the installation of concrete water wells in five villages.

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, will say on the day of resurrection, “…O son of Adam, I asked you for something to drink but you did not give it to me”. He will say, “O Lord, how can I give you something to drink when you are the Lord of the worlds?”

He will say, “My servant so-and-so asked you give him something to drink and did not give it to him. Had you given it to him, you would have surely found that with Me”’. [Muslim]

About Us - Bugisu Muslim Development Centre (BMDC)

Bugisu Muslim Development Centre (BMDC), is a registered NGO working in Uganda and has a reputable background in governance, transparency, and management of funds and has executed various related projects including but not limited to;

•   Construction and renovation of Masjids

•   Water well installation and borehole repair

BMDC will oversee and manage the project and seek your generous donation of $6,000 to renovate build five concrete water well across five rural communities.

The funds will be used to procure construction kits and building equipment, drilling boreholes, and water pumps.

BMDC will ensure to provide invoices, receipts, payment vouchers including photos and video clips taken during and after construction of the water wells, and provide necessary updates through Sadaqah - Ummah Crowdfunding. 

Additionally, BMDC will update donors regularly on every stage of the project and will make sure donors receive regular updates about the impact of their donation with a final completion report which we will InshaAllah be posted on this campaign page.
