Orphan Sponsorship Program  

Ar-Rahman Islamic School is located in the Mpogo area, Buwabuyi Village, Bukhulo Sub-County in Sironko District, East Uganda. 

The school started in the Year 2018 with support from Humanity Aid Foundation with many donors from around the world participating in the fundraising event. 

There are currently 300 orphans to we need support in sponsoring. 

The school teaches both national curricula (English, Mathematics, and Science) along with Islamic Classes (Arabic Language, Quran, Fiqh, Hadith, among other subjects).

The school is fully operational and managed by Humanity Aid Foundation (HAF)  with a total of 16 staff.

The total population in the area is approximately 7,000 people with the majority being Muslims (60%). 

The most important economic activities within this region are trading and farming. However, the majority of family households are living below the poverty line in the area which stands around 70%. 

On average, each household has 8 individuals living as squatters - they do not have land or permanent houses and this is one of the most critical issues in the area. 

Education facilities within the area are of very poor quality, often without any proper attention given to the destitute and the orphans. This discrimination of the vulnerable has resulted in a high drop-out rate from schools, thus indulgence in immoral activities.

Soon after attaining a new government in Uganda, a free primary education known as Universal Primary Education (UPE) was introduced under the new governance. The education system has been beneficial to the entire Ugandan community giving a very high rise in school enrollment since the year 1998.

However, the challenge has been the lack of adequate learning facilities in all government learning institutions to accommodate the rising number of pupils in school, a factor that has reduced the quality of education to the children. 

The Government of Uganda however, soon realized that the resources for sustaining the services were not forthcoming. In addition, the funding momentum has degenerated during the past few years by declining global economic recession and adoption of unsustainable sector strategies. 

Access to adequate and quality education is key to sustainable community development. This is an area of public concern, with a significant impact on family welfare and quality of life.

To achieve this key objective, a combination of appropriate technical services, community management, and realistic poverty-focused planning and social appraisal is of paramount importance. It is envisaged that the most preferred systems of enhancing the quality of education in the area will be sinking deep in the provision of support to the less privileged community members such as the destitute and the children from single parenthood or the poorest of the poor in general.

The community in Mpogo area in Sironko and other surrounding Districts has been prone to an increasing number of orphans, abandoned children, and disillusioned destitute. 

With inadequate economic resources, this entire community has been forced to engage in indecency and immoral activities as their means of earning a living, which is not sound development practice. The sum has greatly been contributed by the spread of HIV and AIDS and a high drop-out rate in school due to lack of proper support in academics.

Currently, we are facing challenges in finance to facilitate these orphans with school materials and salaries for staff and teachers. We have initiated this campaign to raise funds for 300 orphans to continue with education. 

According to the Ugandan educational system, we have three terms each year and we are going to raise funds and sponsor these Orphans according to this education system. 

Each term consists of three months and in total, we have to sponsor nine months in a year. 

Currently, we are raising funds for the first term commencing 1st May 2022 to 30th June 2022.

The total cost to sponsor 300 orphans for Term 1 for 3 months is $10,000 USD

NOTE: That is approximately $33.33 per child and equates to just over $11 per month per child. 

Humanity Aid Foundation will monitor and run all activities involved in this project with the help and guidelines from donors. We will set up a WhatsApp group to keep the donors informed of the activities. 

Donors will receive regular updates on the progress of the program (before, during, and after). Updates will be through our social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) and through private donor email and WhatsApp group. 

This will be done for transparency and to show the donor use of their funds end up being used for the intended purposes.

Donors if they are willing, will also be granted an opportunity to visit the project (school) to check on the orphans being sponsored (before sponsorship, during sponsorship or after sponsorship).

Sahl ibn Sa’d reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Myself and the caretaker of an orphan will be in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers together. (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 5659)

Humanity Aid Foundation and Project Management

The project will be managed by Humanity Aid Foundation – a charity established back in 2015 and rich history in the successful execution of many empowerment projects in Easter Uganda.

The organization has a well-organized structure with dedicated experienced staff to carry out assigned activities in the time allocated. 100% of the donation goes directly to the intended beneficiaries of the projects and we are transparent to our donors as we share and update our donors on every step of the project through social media platforms and private emails.
