Renovation of Masjid Namanyonyi - Remote and Rural Eastern Uganda

Namanyonyi ward in Nansu village is one of the trading centres found around 3 km away on the outskirts of Mbale city, Eastern Uganda. 

The people of Namanyonyi comprise of a mixed culture, religion and languages but the majority of whom are Muslims. About 75% to be precise of the entire population are Muslims. The local economy isn't doing well and the people in the village survive on doing odd jobs, while others survive through the cultivation of crops. They don't have a permanent source of income and tend to suffer from poverty and depression.

Calling You Generous Donors to Renovate Masjid Namanyonyi

Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa. Islam came into Uganda during the 1840’s through the East African coastal trade route with the Arab traders.

Nansu village which is located on the Eastern province of Uganda is home to Masjid Namanyonyi, first built by their grandfathers in the 1962 as a temporary shelter and a place to worship and practice Islam.

As the population increased in the village, they combined their efforts and support to put up the current semi-permanent structure that you see right now in the '90s; estimated to accommodate around 250-300 people.

Ever since the construction, the number of Muslims in the community village has grown to 1000 and beyond. With the limited space of the Masjid and worsening conditions, it is InshaAllah time for a renovation.

Besides the limited space, the condition of the Masjid has weakened with a leaking roof and rotten timber, putting worshippers at risks.

During rainy season, Muslims tend to miss congregational prayers and during the dry and summer season the Masjid gets extremely hot, making the conditions to pray uncomfortable.

At peaks times, women and children attend prayers in the shade provided by the mango tree available next to the Majid. 

Now the Muslims of Nansu village are appealing for generous donors for support in the renovation of Masjid Namanyonyi.

The masjid acts as a center for Quran memorization, counseling and guidance, wedding ceremonies and many other community-led events. It is not only a place for worship but also act as a focal point for uniting all Muslims and non-Muslims in the community.

Let us unite as an Ummah and InshaAllah bring renewed hope and optimism to the people of Nansu and reach our target of raising $4,650 to renovate the Masjid and fix the leaking roof InshaAllah.

Uthman ibn Affan reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said;

“Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise.”

About Us - Bugisu Muslim Development Centre (BMDC)

Bugisu Muslim Development Centre (BMDC), is a registered NGO working in Uganda and has a reputable background in governance, transparency and management of funds and has executed various related projects including but not limited to; 

   •   Construction and renovation of Masjids

   •   Water well installation and borehole repair

BMDC will oversee and manage the project and seek your generation donation of $4,650 to renovate Masjid Namanyonyi. 

The funds will be used to procure construction kits and building equipment like iron bars, iron sheets, nails, timbers, cement, expanded metals, paint, bricks, carpet and will be use to pay for labor. 

BMDC will ensure to provide invoices, receipts, payment vouchers including photos and video clips taken during and after construction of the Masjid in the "updates" section of this campaign page. 

Additionally, BMDC will update donors regularly on every stage of the project and will make sure donors receive regular updates about the impact of their donation with a final completion report which we will InshaAllah be posted on this campaign page.
