Essential food packs and parcels for Ramadan 2021 and beyond

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar; observed by all Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (Saum in Arabic). During this Holy Month all Muslims across the world practice fasting from sunrise to sunset. At sunset Muslims break their fast with a meal called Iftar and the predawn meal is called Suhoor. 

The month is obligatory to all adult Muslims who are not chronically ill, menstruating, traveling, breastfeeding, or diabetic.

Many Muslims in developing countries especially in Africa and in particular Uganda inclusively are unable to participate in fulfilling the obligatory Holy month of Ramadan due to excessive poverty, where they cannot afford these two meals a day (Iftar and Suhoor) to enable them to observe the holy month and end up missing to fulfill one of the pillars of Islam. 

Having analyzed and assessed the economic status of our target beneficiaries; it has been observed that many do not go on to fast for the reason that they lack basic needs; especially food to get them through the holy month. Those who do fast; tend to break their fast with basic staple food supply and edible food found in their nearby fields such as raw mangoes and papaws; not the best way to break a fast considering you have been fasting the whole day. 

It was narrated that Zayd ibn Khaalid al-Juhani said: The  Messenger of Allaah  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:  “Whoever gives iftaar to a fasting person will have a reward like his,  without that detracting from the reward of the fasting person in the  slightest.” 

Basing on the above assessment, appeal, and verification on the ground; Bugisu Muslim Development Centre appeals to all generous people for support in form of donations to enable us to purchase food packs and parcels each at $35 to feed a family for the whole holy month of Ramadan and beyond.

With the project, we intend to reach to over 100 Muslim households in Butebo District. Each food packs contains;
