Ahmad walks through the streets of Gusau (a city in Northern Nigeria) with a bowl in his hand and chants in his mouth. 

His mission is simple, to beg for enough to survive on for the day. He asks for handouts from people, often chased away with the motion of a hand. 

He survives on scraps of food, loose change, and the little he earns from odd jobs he gets. Every day is hard and he survives in harsh conditions. 

He cannot remember where he comes from but he is sure he is miles away from home. His stomach growls as he goes to the shack he shares with many other boys like him.

There are many children like Ahmad and mainly in Northern Nigeria where they live in similar conditions. 

The average age of these children falls between the ages of four to ten years. Apart from being deprived of their rights to freedom and compulsory basic education; they are often at times victim of various forms of abuses. 

In fact, their lifestyle is a classic case of child abuse and neglect. They beg for food remnants and staled food at doorsteps as they wander in the neighborhoods, they dress in rags, always looking dirty and unkempt, and under hazardous social exposure in their hostile communities.

Their lives are bound in a circle of poverty and illiteracy. Having no access to western education means they are ill-equipped to progress from their life of wretchedness. 

After their years of roaming the streets, they are left on their own. Far away from home to return home and unskilled to work. They are likely to take to stealing, hard drugs, kidnapping, banditry, extremism, and political thuggery. For the few that escape, they take up jobs as artisans doing blue-collar jobs.

   ✔   To reform and modernize the system of Almajiri schooling to meet 

          with present realities.
   ✔   To extend the provision for the education of children till secondary 

          school level.
   ✔   To help these children have hope for a bright future

   ✔   To eradicate abuse and slavery of underaged children in Nigeria.

   ✔   To achieve the full implementation of Sustainable Development 

          Goals of Zero Hunger, no Poverty and Quality Education for the

   ✔   Provide well-equipped and modern schools with hostels for a

          conducive learning environment in schools.


Why to contribute for the reform of this system? The current system of Almajiranci is:

   ✔   It is injustice for these children.
   ✔   It promotes child abuse and neglect.

   ✔   It threatens the future security of lives and property in society.

   ✔   It promotes poverty and illiteracy.
   ✔   It violates basic human rights values.
   ✔   It allows individuals and groups to take advantage of the system to 

         channel the children to achieve their wicked purposes.
